The Nemo Story
Nemo was founded in 1993 by Franco Cassina and Carlo Forcolini in Meda, Italy. The official lighting division of Cassina Furniture, the company was established to recreate the lighting pieces that best represented the "Golden Age" of Italian lighting design of the 1960s and '70s, namely those created by the Italian modernist Franco Albini.
Read MoreFive years later, the company acquired ItalianaLuce, an Italian lighting line that features a range of modern fixtures that are functional, practical and versatile. The new assortment provided a complementary counterpoint to the classic clean lines of its iconic Nemo Franco Albini imprint. Nemo absorbed the company as well as the name, rebranding itself as Nemo ItalianaLuce.
In 2002, the company purchased Illuminating Experiences, an expansive U.S. lighting entity that allowed Nemo ItalianaLuce to considerably increase its presence in the states. Fast-forward to 2014, and the company arrives where it started, reverting to the esteemed simplicity of its original name – Nemo.
